You’ll be hearing from us

Dear President-elect Donald J. Trump,

I woke up on November 9th after serving as an election judge the previous night and was baffled by an election result that had shaken all polls and predictions. Shocked and scared for the future of our country, I had trouble coming to terms with the fact that the American populace had elected a man whose sole commitment was to the supplement of his ego. It is no secret that you yourself were shocked by the results of the election, as I find myself looking at pictures of you viewing the results come in, pictures that have since been made into memes.

Your campaign has been the greatest con job in the history of the United States, feeding on the fear, hatred, and idiocy displayed by uneducated, white America. You are the fourth candidate in U.S. history to lose the popular vote but win the electoral college, and while I despise everything you stand for, I thank you. You have exposed the deep institutional problems with our political system, including the utter failure of the electoral college to fulfill its constitutional duty: to save the American people from themselves.

The Democratic party has failed to provide us with a candidate that motivates us and doesn’t represent wealthy donors, instead drawing in support from an establishment that the American people have made clear they will no longer stand. While nearly all Americans have questioned your temperament, your vow to self-fund your campaign and tear through the status quo has ignited a voting base normally stagnant.

You must be clueless as to what to do next, as I’m most skeptical that you even wanted this job in the first place. You ran for the presidency to flare up an ego already boiling over, and now you’ve got it. In January, you’ll be the most powerful man on the planet in an office with direct contact to the most powerful nuclear arsenal and as commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the history of the world. You will be tasked with representing the United States in U.N. assemblies and in the annual world Climate Summit with a cabinet that refuses to believe in the urgent reality of climate change.

We all hope you’ll act more presidential, because the world is watching. And you’ll be hearing from us every step of the way.

Good luck Donald.
