Talula Cedar-James has a knack for tinkering with problems until they work. She is putting this skill to good use this year as she enters her second year as Graphics Editor. As a senior this her third year at The Southerner. Talula hopes to improve her own skills with graphics while being a resource for others. She enjoys doing all kinds of creative projects, including ceramic jewelry and printmaking. Talula loves languages and studying culture. She hates winter and wants to travel the world some day. One of her favorite foods is honey nut cheerios with milk.
![MPS has contracted a software company called Gaggle to monitor student accounts and writing to identify possible signs of suicide ideation, self-harm, harm to others, signs of depression, exploitation, or bullying. “I would feel comfortable saying that we’ve saved some lives with what we’ve done with [Gaggle],” said Jason Matlock, the Director of Emergency Management, Safety, and Security at MPS.
However, many students are unsure of what Gaggle does or unaware that it even exists. Aesha Graffunder, a sophomore at Roosevelt said, “I see little to no problem with Gaggle itself, its purpose is to provide schools with information that can help protect students. ![All Nations students have the opportunity to learn the process of building traditional lacrosse sticks. Every spring All Nations students learn traditional lacrosse as part of the curriculum. The introduction of the game is an important connection to their traditional culture and building sticks takes that a step further. South sophomore, Ava Keezer-Dow said, “Before lacrosse was just always a game [but] since I started making [lacrosse sticks] it’s just like I felt more connected to something bigger.”](https://www.shsoutherner.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/lacrosse-900x506.jpg)
