Nico Mercadal

16 year old Nico Mercadal; a Bape-loving Capricorn with a passion for fashion, social justice, and acting.

Acting is a serious passion for Mercadal. His 'momager' has been getting him auditions since he can remember, so acting has always been a definite part of his life, but it wasn't until freshman year, when his true passion for acting really started.

After joining South Theater his eyes were opened. "It dawned on me, like yo, this is something I could seriously do. Acting opened my eyes to the coolest people I have ever met. Theater people are just the best," he said.

He started to get more and more serious about acting. "I was memorizing lines more than I was doing my homework. I would run over my lines in class." Mercadal is also a longtime competitive swimmer, but after he became serious about acting his priorities switched. "I don't think I will ever be a movie star, I don't even want to be famous. I just want to act," he said. "There's something so different and great about stage acting. The spotlight is literally all on you."

He has strong views about social justice and world issues. "I strongly disagree when people say racism is dead, sexism is dead, stigma around mental illness is dead... Because it isn't. It's very alive and needs to be addressed," he said. He believes there is a "Lack of understanding, lack of acceptance, lack of respect, which leads to fear (of mental illnesses). I could go on hours."

Mercadal also has a lot to say about fashion. His favorite brands are Louis Vuitton, A Bathing Ape, Yves Saint Laurent, and Rac Simons. “I love high fashion and I love sneakers.”
