Ellie Barnett-Cashman is a senior at South High School starting her third year on the Southerner. Barnett-Cashman spent her first year on the team as a staff writer and her second as the sports editor. Whether it be exploring urban areas, camping, going on adventures in beautiful natural areas, or playing her role as captain of both her gymnastics and ultimate frisbee teams, Barnett-Cashman is always moving and staying active. She is a very outgoing person who loves to be around people. Barnett-Cashman also enjoys being creative through drawing and has a weakness for going out to eat and trying new restaurants around the cities.

Senior, Nick Carter has competed in countless races ranging from European races, World Championships to Nationals, farther than he had expected to go with his cycling career. There’s no way I would’ve ever thought I would be in this place which also makes me optimistic for the future that I could go places that I’m not thinking about right now, said Carter.

The gymnastics team practices at North Star Elementary School, where they share a gym with Washburn, Southwest, Edison, Henry, and North high schools. “We go to North Minneapolis, and there’s a facility there called North Star that we got 6 years ago, that’s where all the gymnastics teams go to practice,” said Gabby Stickney.

Brent Harring spends a lot of his time subbing at schools in South Minneapolis. However, he is most famous for his indelible belief and passion for the research and discovery of sasquatches. People dont know how serious I am about the subject, people may think its casual or somewhat of a joke, but they dont know how much time Ive spent on the subject, said Harring.

South students and staff helped out at the Somali family needs assessment meeting to make sure it ran as smoothly and as efficiently as possible. “I love that it was a collaborative event where there was teacher, social workers, counselors, admin, and other support staff in the meeting space so I felt empowered after that meeting,” said Raqiya Mohamed.
