The playoffs are coming up for South High boys basketball team so they took a quick trip to Roosevelt for their last conference game of the season on Thursday night, February 11th. They beat Roosevelt at home a little over a month ago, and as Senior Forward Michael Harris stated, they were hoping to “go in there with intensity and effort,” to bring back a win for the school.
South wanted to have positive energy for these last few games of the season, but it was a challenging night at Roosevelt as the Teddies came out inspired on their Senior night and beat the Tigers with a final score of 51 to 37.
South led the majority of the 1st half with a 13-10 lead but they lost it 10 minutes in and never recovered. South entered the half behind 32-20 due to the Roosevelt defense’s attempts to run out the clock.
In the second half, Roosevelt continued to slow the game down to protect their lead which resulted in little scoring from either side for the second half of the game. At the end of the game Michael Harris, who finished with 14 points reflected that the team should have “executed our plays” to win the game, although he did praise the team for keeping a “positive energy.”
As far as the playoff are concerned Harris continued saying that “We have a good chance” and “We want it bad”. Hopefully South will have better luck for the next few games and continue on the track to victory.
