Excitement is in the air at South as students and staff prepare to take the court for the much-anticipated student vs. staff basketball game. Scheduled for December 20th during 6th hour, this showdown might just become the next beloved South tradition, that brings the school community together for a night of fun and friendly competition.
The event has been in the works since the beginning of the school year, as a way to bring the South community together. According to Mr. Maxey, a staff member at South High School. “I’m looking for joy, people having fun, having the school community together, and being energized before winter break,” he said. “It’s such a great way to cap off the year.”
The students are equally excited to take on their teachers. Maxwell Niblett, a South student participating in the game, shared his enthusiasm. “I think the students vs. staff basketball game is a great way to keep energy and morale high right before winter break,” he said. “It’s been a long quarter so far, and I think it’ll be a fun way to go out with a bang.”
As the big day approaches, both sides are ramping up their preparation. Teachers are working on teamwork and experience, while students are counting on their energy and determination.
The basketball game isn’t just about the friendly competition—it’s a celebration of the South community. “It’s really about bringing everyone together,” Nibblett added. “Moments like these remind us why South is such a special place.”
