South High’s men’s soccer team are anticipating their first game against Blake on Thursday, August 27th and Super Soccer Saturday will be on September the 26th at South’s playing field. Players to look out for this season are sophomore Joe Branca, who plays forward, and senior Hamza Abdujalil, who plays midfield.
Women’s soccer is working with a new head coach, Jillian Stockmo, this year. Stockmo was previously the assistant varsity coach and is a South High alumni! “We are kind of a young group and are looking forward to see how we will grow and build as a team,” said captain Grace Larson (junior) in a phone interview. South High’s football team is under new leadership this year, as seniors Kyle Evans, Conor Leech, and Payton Boundry join Elerson Smith as captains. The team has several exciting games coming up this month as they play Southwest at home on September 3rd and play Blake on September 18th for our homecoming. One player to watch out for this season is Unique Divine as a defensive and offensive linesman.
Women’s tennis is also getting ready for another great season. An important match to attend would be on September9th against Roosevelt. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see junior Evie Murphy-Wilson and senior Coral Gordon compete in a doubles match!
This year the cross country team has a fresh group of new runners so it’s hard to tell who to look out for- you’ll have to go to their 6th annual invitational meet at the University of St. Catherine and see for yourself!
According to the volleyball captian, Shameelah Abdullah, “we have a new coach who’s tough but amazing.” Abdullah says to look out for Rosie Letofsky and Cleo Rank at their first home game against De LaSalle coming up on Thursday!
