Sarah Minette, a music teacher at South, is starting a weightlifting class for female-identifying students at CrossFit where she teaches some classes. “This is a club that is a response to girls who might not always feel comfortable in the weight room after school, and they want to lift weights but they’re not really sure how to lift the big weights like the barbells and deadlifting and squating, and they don’t necessarily feel comfortable approaching one of the coaches in there for a variety of reasons,” she said. “This is me trying to create a space where they feel comfortable.”

On October 10, sixteen MPS middle and high school students entered the Junior Iron Chef competition. The winning team included local South High freshman Frances Levy, chef Jorge Guzman, NFL player Greg Coleman, and Miguel Lopez Zurita from Anwatin school.  I didn’t know what to do going in there but first we just mingled and met the other teams and then we all ate dinner and they served us last years winning meal so that was fun,” Levi said.

Students from across Minneapolis marched in a nation-wide protest against racism, homophobia and xenophobia in response to the latest rise of white-supremacist groups.
